Mountain Top Experience - Der Dachstein

Hoher Dachstein is a strongly karstic Austrian mountain, and the second highest mountain in the Northern Limestone Alps. It is situated at the border of Upper Austriaand Styria in central Austria, and is the highest point in each of those states.

We reached 3000 meters on this day and walked on a glacier.  The view was amazing and weird to see people skiing in July.

A highlight was that Chris and Henry were able to ride down the mountain on the outside and on top of the cable car - HD video to follow later...

Mountain Top Experience 1 - Planai Lift

Planai is a ski area in central Austria, the main mountain in the Schladming area in Styria. It is one of four adjoining mountains, which includes Hauser Kaibling, Hochwurzen and Reiteralm.

On this day we enjoyed a big play ground at 2000 meters and a high ropes course at the top of the mountain.  Then lunch at an outdoor Austria Brew Pub.  Note the band is drinking while singing. 

Arrived in Schladming on the afternoon on Monday, July 1

We had a smooth drive through the center of Austria to arrive at Schladming.  It has a name that does sound odd, but the village, the natural setting, and the surrounding area make this place a very unique and the wonderful destination indeed.  Everywhere you look amazing mountains frame your view from all sides of the valley.  The culture and pace are laid back and less cynical than Vienna.  The town reminders one much of summer time in an authentic and genuine Colorado ski resort town, one not sold out to tourism and big name hotels/resorts.  The activities are vast and unique.  Both calmness and adventure seem to be available in good measure.  It is a place one can easily fit in...
This is the amazing and hidden side of Austria that would erode if many more people dont knew about and came here.  The remoteness keeps this town the gem that it is.
